The media won’t leave them alone. Drama filled offseason. Upset fans. Bad trades. Your first assumption is the Toronto Maple Leafs; not this time. The Montreal Canadiens have been the media’s speed bag over the past few months and Max Pacioretty is not one, BUT TWO, coaches speed bag.
“He’s OK, but I need more out of him,” said Tortorella, head coach of Team USA at the World Cup of hockey.
A few days later and there are alleged reports of Canadiens Head Coach, Michel Therrien, calling Pacioretty the worst captain in Habs history at a golf tournament.
The Canadiens captain has been criticized immensely since a team vote was held at the start of last season that left him with a left side heavy “C” plastered on his chest. Fact is, Pacioretty has performed well since his break out 39 goal season in 2013-2014 and has since potted 30 goals in the last two seasons. So, what’s wrong?
Pacioretty is doing what he’s supposed to do, scoring goals. You can only ask for so much from a player.
The attention has been on Pacioretty since their disastrous collapse in 2015-2016 and he has been targeted for his inability to steer the bus back on track.
Through all the heat Pacioretty continues to stay positive and continues to produce as expected.
After an offseason that saw the Canadiens go BLOCKBUSTER with acquisitions of the so called best leader in the show Shea Weber and vocal dean Andrew Shaw and the rebirth of Carey Price; having these players come into the dressing room should soften the cushion for Pacioretty.
If Montreal has a campaign to forget for the second consecutive season Geoff Molson has to make a change in management and coaching. They can’t afford to lose Subban and Pacioretty. If multiple players are butting heads with management and coaching then clearly it’s not the players.
It’s not Pacioretty’s responsibility to babysit the dumpster fire that is the Montreal Canadiens.
The Habs captain does not deserve what is coming down on him.
Enough is enough.
