Today when the Crusaders take on the Grande Prairie Storm, veteran d-man Chase Torontow will be suiting up in his 200th career junior game! A major milestone for any junior hockey player.
Torontow started off playing his bantam/midget hockey for the South Side Athletic Club before making the jump to play for the Crusaders full time in 2013/2014.
He’s been a rock on the blue-line in Sherwood Park for four seasons now and has shown some offensive flair at times. With 71 points in his first 199 games, highlighted by 25 assists in 58 games last season, he has been both a leader and a player who can be counted on at both ends of the rink.
He’s also been counted on as a leader with the Cru and is a favourite in the room. I asked a few of his teammates what having Chase in the room is like:
“Chase has been good to me since by first days with the Cru, when I was an affiliate” said forward Ty Readman “He’s great with all the boys in the room and keeps the mood light.”
When I asked Tyler Maltby about his teammate of the past 3 years he also had nothing but praise, saying “It’s been a real good experience getting to play alongside him during our Cru years.”
As I mentioned before Chase is counted on to be a steady defender, but also contribute on the offense a little bit, something that doesn’t go unnoticed in the room either.
“On the ice, we can count on him to be a solid puck mover and contribute offensively and on special teams” Readman went on to explain.
A solid veteran player, a leader, and a great teammate. Congratulations on 200 career AJHL games Chase!
Chase will also be our guest next week on Inside The Cru! So stayed tune for a full interview with him on Thursday!
