The Crusaders have acquired 19 year old goaltender Jake Morrissey from the Drayton Valley Thunder. The Cru have struggled in goal so far this season and are currently ranked last in goals against in the AJHL. Morrissey has spent time with the Cru before where he played in one game in the 2015-16 season, and conceded 2 goals against along with a .905 save percentage.
After being drafted by the Kelowna Rockets in the 5th round back in 2012, Morrissey has struggled to find himself a home. The goaltender has found himself on 6 different teams already in his young career. The Crusaders are hoping he can find the form he had with the Rockets in 2015 where had a 1.98 goals against average in 11 games.
“We are very happy to acquire Jake,” Coach Adam Manah told us. “He brings good size in the net, has WHL experience, and we are looking forward to giving him an opportunity to contribute to our hockey team.”
Jake’s numbers don’t truly show how good of a goal tender he is. The Crusaders may have found the missing piece to their line up.
Morrissey is expected to join the team for tomorrow’s game against the Olds Grizzlies. When his first start will be is to be determined.
