Another Sherwood Park Crusader who hopes to hear his name called at the NHL Entry Draft is Ty Mueller.
Mueller is entering his second year with the Crusaders after joining them as a highly-touted prospect from the Airdrie Bisons Midget AAA program. He’s got off to an electric start during Sherwood Park’s six-game exhibition series against the Lloydminster Bobcats scoring five goals and eight points.
In his rookie season, the Cochrane native scored six goals and 30 points in 50 games and was named to the Viterra North All-Rookie team. Mueller also built a repetition as being a reliable two way forward that could be depended on in all situations.
He is also committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha for the 2021-22 season.
Today, the NHL Central Scouting released their preliminary watch list for the 2021 NHL Draft and Mueller found his name on the list. The Cochrane native was graded as a “C” level prospect which means they projected he could go anywhere from the 4th to the 6th round.
Mueller will be looking to become the fourth Crusader in three years to be selected in the NHL Draft. Carter Gylander was the first to go in 2019 when he went 191st overall to the Detroit Red Wings. The next year, Michael Benning went 95th overall to the Flordia Panthers, and five picks later Carter Savoie was selected by the Edmonton Oilers.
In the initial NHL Central Scouting preliminary watch list last season, Benning also received a “C” grading like Mueller.
Also graded were Brooks Bandits defenceman Corson Ceulemans and Calgary Canucks forward Brett Moravec. Ceulemans received an “A” grading while Moravec was given a “C” grading.
