Storm Acquire Two From BCHL

The Grande Prairie Storm have been the busiest team in the AJHL the past week or so.
Last week, they brought in goaltender Carl Stankowski from Penticton and then also announced the acquisition of defenceman Cameron Vassos from the OJHL.
Now, Mike Vandekamp has brought in two players from his old team the Cowichan Valley Capitals – forward Cole Broadhurst (2000) and defenceman Johnny Howie (2001). Going the other way is defenceman Jackson Murphy-Johnson (2002) who was part of the deal that sent Jarin Sutton (1999) to the Prince George Spruce Kings last season.
Broadhurst is a 6’2, 185 lbs forward from Ladysmith, BC. He’s played 157 BCHL games all with the Capitals scoring 14 goals and 35 points while collecting 233 PIMs. Before his time in the BCHL, he played 47 games for the Nanaimo Buccaneers in the VIJHL.
Also coming over in the deal is Johnny Howie. Howie is another big body standing at 6’2. 190 lbs from Carp, Ontario. Last season was his first full year of Junior A hockey, and he played in 41 games scoring one goal and seven points.
The big take away from this deal is the size. With both players standing at 6’2 and weighing over 180 lbs, it shows that Vandekamp won’t let the Storm be pushed around next season.
