A key to winning your fantasy league is to have a top quality forward duo.
Obviously, we all know the best of the best:
Ovechkin and Backstrom
Benn and Seguin
Kane and Panarin
It’s easy enough to take a duo like them but why not wait until later in the draft?
Especially when you could get elite players with your 1st and 2nd round picks.
Which is what makes the Panthers duo of Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov even more valuable.
These two Florida Panthers forwards are a huge bargain duo that you can’t pass up on. Barkov and Huberdeau both put up career numbers last season and there’s no doubt that they’ll have any issue beating those numbers again in 2017. Both forwards are expected to put up a minimum of 140 points between the two of them, honestly, we shouldn’t be shocked if one of them puts up 80 alone. This duo is really flying under the radar in fantasy but don’t let them get by you. There is nothing not to like about these two.
You’re going to find Huberdeau somewhere in the 6th or 7th round, which for somebody who could get you 70 points, that’s an absolute steal. Although he missed Barkov for 16 games last season, Huberdeau still finished with 59 points in 76 games. He’s going to get top minutes in Florida on both 5 on 5 and power play with plenty more talent around him now, expect him to hit big numbers this year.
Following that point the Panthers told him he has to be much more selfish this season, they want to see him take more shots. More shots can translate into more goals which means more fantasy points. Perfect!
Don’t be fooled by the players around Huberdeau in the draft. The Panthers forward had more points that everyone around besides two other players. Please don’t bite on the name brand like Ryan Kesler when Huberdeau is still available. Don’t be afraid to pick him a little higher than ranked too.
Although Huberdeau has been hit with an ankle injury he is still a great draft option. He’s expected to be out for 3-4 months, this will make his draft ranking drop significantly. Huberdeau is still worth the draft pick, you can leave on your bench or IR for however long it takes.
Since coming into the league Aleksander Barkov has led the Panthers in power play goals and is sitting second in power play points, right behind Jonathan Huberdeau.
You love him already right?
For every year he’s been in the league his numbers have got better and better:
|Games||Goals||Assists||Points||Proj full 82|
You can see if Barkov could’ve stayed healthy last season that he would already have a 70 point season in his career. He has the ability to do that this year, no question.
The biggest issue with him is his healthy, already missing 55 games in his young career. I would not worry about that though and if you are just pick up the man who doesn’t age, Jaromir Jagr.
The ultimate thing that should drive you the pick Barkov is his ranking. You can draft him as low as the 10th round, which is robbery! How a player this talented can be ranked so low is beyond me.
These two forwards going to be a major key in how your fantasy season goes. Barkov and Huberdeau could be the two biggest steals of your draft this year and you need them both on your team. You’ll be missing Huberdeau to start the season but you still shouldn’t worry about drafting him. Go get them both and win your fantasy league.
